Why do smartphones rely on gimmicks like under-screen cameras, fingerprint sensors, and speakers?

Is this really what people want in their phone? Putting everything under the display just to add a few millimeters of screen? You’re just sacrificing quality for sleekness.

We already have full-screen phones like the Galaxy S9, no camera hole, no notch, no hidden speaker. It worked perfectly fine and still looks sleek enough.

I don’t see gimmicks like this on laptops, tablets, or TVs, so why are they needed on phones? This whole obsession over slim bezels has gone too far.
